- Does varicocele surgery improve sperm quality?
- In men with a palpable varicocele and abnormal semen parameters, microsurgical varicocelectomy improves sperm count and motility in roughly two thirds of cases. First improvement is seen at 3 months and natural pregnancy rates rise.
- Which tests are done for erectile dysfunction?
- After a detailed history and examination, blood glucose, lipids and morning testosterone are measured; penile Doppler ultrasound is used when a vascular cause needs confirmation. Cardiovascular risk is assessed in every man with ED.
- Does a penile implant affect sensation or orgasm?
- No. The implant only provides rigidity; sensation, orgasm and ejaculation are unchanged. Inflatable implants are undetectable from outside and sexual activity resumes after 4-6 weeks.
- Can Peyronie’s disease (penile curvature) be treated?
- Yes. In the early phase medical and traction treatments are used; once the plaque is stable, plication, plaque surgery or a penile implant is chosen according to the degree of curvature and erectile function.
